If you have lived through a North Carolina August, you know how heavy the air gets. That moisture finds its way into subfloors, basements and crawlspaces, and it is a big reason homeowners ask us about luxury vinyl plank. Here is an honest look at where it works well and where it needs help.
Why LVP handles our climate well
Rigid-core planks have a stable core that holds its shape through seasonal swings. Spills, mopping and muddy red-clay footprints do not damage the surface. For busy families that is a real relief compared with a floor you have to baby.
Where to be careful
- Over a damp crawlspace, we check for a vapor barrier before installing anything
- On older concrete slabs, we test for moisture and patch low spots so planks lock tight
- In rooms with huge south-facing windows, use the manufacturer's expansion gap and consider shades
- Ask about wear layer thickness: a thicker layer holds up better to pets and heavy traffic
If you want the look of wood with more tolerance for water, compare LVP with engineered hardwood, and see all of our flooring options when you are choosing between them.
How the install goes
We measure, check the subfloor, level what needs leveling and float the planks with staggered seams so the pattern looks natural. Trim, transitions and baseboards are finished at the end so the room looks done, not just covered.
