Carpeted stairs in Raleigh & the RDU

Stairs are the hardest-working surface in the house, and carpet makes them quieter, softer, and safer for kids and older family members. Danny Boy Flooring Company measures every riser and tread, because a staircase is only as good as its layout.

We handle cushion, tackless strip, and finishing details like waterfall and Hollywood wraps so the carpet pulls tight to the nosing with no visible gaps.

Wall-to-wall or a runner?

A full wall-to-wall wrap is the quietest and most budget-friendly option. A runner shows off the wood on the sides of the treads, which pairs beautifully with hardwood stairs we've finished or refinished for customers across the Triangle.

  • Wall-to-wall: best sound control and simplest maintenance
  • Runner: displays stained or painted treads and adds a custom look
  • Landings and turns: need careful seaming for a clean finish
  • Pet and kid traffic: favors low, dense pile

When carpet beats hardwood on stairs

Hardwood is gorgeous, but it can be slippery and loud on a busy family staircase. If your household includes toddlers, dogs, or late-night snack trips, carpet is often the better everyday answer, with hardwood or vinyl plank saved for the main living areas.

How we install carpet on stairs

We inspect for squeaks and loose treads, secure the structure, stretch the carpet over cushion, and finish each edge by hand. Then we vacuum, remove debris, and walk the staircase with you.

Carpet Stairs - frequently asked questions

A dense, low-pile nylon is the usual winner. It resists crushing at the nosing and cleans easily. We'll bring samples so you can feel the difference.

Often, yes. When the carpet is up we can screw loose treads and risers to the framing, which helps the finished staircase stay quiet.

We can, but if the wood is in good shape we'd want to talk about refinishing or a runner so you keep the option open.

It can work, but loops can snag with pets. Ask us about alternatives, and read our customer reviews to hear how past stair projects turned out.
