A staircase is the first thing guests see, and custom stairs are one of our proudest specialties. Danny Boy Flooring Company builds, refinishes, and renovates hardwood stairs, from new treads and risers to stained railings and balusters.
Our family has tackled staircases in older Oxford farmhouses, Durham bungalows, and newer builds in Wake Forest, and each one starts with careful measurements.
Solid or engineered treads?
Solid treads are traditional and refinishable. Engineered treads offer stability and sometimes a lower price. We'll show you both and match species and stain to the rest of your hardwood flooring.
- Red or white oak: classic and widely available
- Maple and hickory: lighter or more character-rich options
- Painted risers: crisp contrast with stained treads
- Square or bullnose edges, with or without returns
What the process looks like
We remove the old covering, repair and square up the structure, then fit each tread and riser. Finishing is done on site, so the staircase matches the surrounding floor.
If your stairs just need a facelift, hardwood refinishing may be all you need.
Matching stairs to your floor
We coordinate stain, sheen, and nosing details with your main level so the stairs feel like part of the same design. Ask us about adding a runner for a softer touch.

Yes. We remove the carpet, check the structure, and fit new treads and risers.
Most staircases take two to four days including finishing, depending on the size and any repairs we find.

Finished wood can be slick in socks. A stair runner or a lower-sheen finish adds traction. We're happy to discuss options.
